Know what your children are "Viewing"

I would also like to note, as a part of my earlier post, that this entire experience (which finding sexual references in our teenage daughters book from the library) has made me question the genre of "Teen Supernatural Romance". I have read some supernatural books from the old "Vampire Chronicles" by Anne Rice as well as the original "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. 

I also have reservations about things like "Twilight" which seem to promote not good values but that it is okay to think that you should kill yourself when your boyfriend leaves you, just as Bella entertained thoughts of suicide in the second Twilight Book. 

It also had another affect. I think that having these teens focus so much on "Romance" that it made them more aware of their body and how it affects others. We had a few talks with all of the kids, that we need to dress appropriately, and not to show off ourselves to others. Jesus wants us to dress modestly, not to lure eyes.

As the Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 2:9 - I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,

This is a call to arms by Christian parents, look at what your children read, as well as what they watch and play as far as video games. In addition, look at what they are wearing, it can be a reflection of what is going on inside their heads.

Note what it said under the "Sex" content for the book (Please note that I not want MY CHILDREN reading bow sexual acts such as blowjobs....do you want your children to read it ?) : 
Teen kissing, some passionate. Zoey says her older sister has "screwed half the football team." A girl gives a guy a blow job in the hallway, barely described but often referred to. Sexy dancing at ceremonies. 

Please look up anything in Common Sense Media. It has been a good resource for us and our family. We look up books, video games, movies just to see what is going on. Our kids have Netflix and things now allowed on the list right now are  (stated after are the reasons they are banned) :

Now if you notice the section is small for movies, this is a great story. You notice of course there are a lot more movies which could be there. Our kids (which age from 9-17 years old) are really quite bright. After talks about what Jesus wants for them, they took it quite receptively (of course after some gounding) and they do have quite good judgement. We continue to monitor them and keep eyes on it. Right now, we have a great family life, in regards to movies, watching things from the Anime Bleach, TV show Smallville and the show Fringe. All of which, we watch it all with them, to make sure that they are very well taken care of on a continual basis. They are so excited when the new netflix comes that they leap for it dying to watch it. It is so awesome to see children seeking what is good in life and not what is corrupted. 

When they ask questions, we tell them to refer to Philippians 4:8-9 : 
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

  1. Also not on this that for this book in the "House of Night" Series, that Common Sense Media marked it as having "No Positive Messages".

    This is what they said :
